Europe+ and the Year of Democratic Change

The infamous crisis has hit the EU and wider Europe hard, with its consequences being felt particularly harshly by the most vulnerable groups in our societies, including young people. I wonai??i??t bore you with the countless youth employment statistics available, because the severity of the situation means that they are well known. Let us just agree that they are dramatic and that hiding behind all those figures are real people, shattered dreams and broken lives.

Let us move on from what the causes of the crisis were, how we could have avoided it, or what should have been done to avoid the all too familiar ‘too little, too lateai??? approach we have all observed. What is easy for us to agree on, is that something must change, and that change must happen now!

With the European Parliament elections approaching and political parties campaigning to convince voters to support their candidates, many promises will be made, most including a commitment to change. We know very well though, how these promises are easily forgotten when the electoral euphoria has passed, and how obstacles and considerations can replace the freewheeling brainstorming exercises that are typical of campaigns.

Yet we, the citizens of Europe, still need change. Good, radical and sustainable change. Change we can believe in. Meaningful change and real change. Democratic and pro-European change.

This is why the European Movement has decided to challenge its members and partners in civil society across Europe to come together and establish a civil society alliance to continue this push. And to create a coalition of all those who believe change is necessary, but also that the need for change is compatible with the European project. We thought many organisations believed in these values, but lacked a loud enough voice to make an impact alone. We were right: more than 40 European civil society networks have answered our call and have joined the alliance, making our collective voice louder than ever.

Together as ai???Europe +ai???, Civil Society for democratic renewal of the EU, we will use this voice to show the way forward. We wonai??i??t only ask simply for change, but will show what needs to be changed and in what way. We come together in the build up to the European Parliament elections, focusing on policies for change; but this will not grind to a halt in May. We will continue working together and advocating for change while the new European Parliament is established, as it elects a new President and college of European Commissioners and whilst the institutions agree on priorities for the following years. When all is said and done, we will continue to fly the flag for democratic change in Europe, reminding the EU institutions and the Member States that not only do policies need to change, but also the institutional framework (and thus the Treaties).

We all know that after this crisis concludes, more dangers will eventually cross our path at many intersections in our future. Todayai??i??s youth will find work or simply grow old and new generations will take their places in the job seekers queues. As the Portuguese poet CamAi??es wrote in the 16th century, ai???The whole world consists of change/Always taking new qualitiesai???; thus the EU needs to

offer itself and its citizens ways to adapt to such new qualities, protecting its own existence and survival from the populist, nationalist, racist and even fascist predators. As we all know, the true recipe for sustainable success, is democracy.

The European Movement, together with its ai???Europe +ai??? partners, believes that this democratic change is needed and possible. For the sake of Europe and of Europeans, we must embrace and promote change. With young people being the experts on change, we count on your support to make 2014 truly a European Year of Democratic Change! viagra online italia. cialis 5 mg cost viagra without prescription in the usa cialis100mg, cialis100mg, cialis100mg, cialis100mg, cialis100mg, cialis100mg. , viagra without prescription in the usa, viagra without prescription in the usa, viagra without prescription in the usa, viagra without prescription in the usa, viagra without prescription in the usa. . buy dapoxetine, buy lioresal zithromax 5 pack, zithromax 5 pack, zithromax 5 pack, zithromax 5 pack, zithromax 5 pack, zithromax 5 pack, zithromax 5 pack, zithromax 5 pack, zithromax 5 pack, zithromax 5 pack, zithromax 5 pack, zithromax 5 pack, zithromax 5 pack, zithromax 5 pack, zithromax 5 pack, zithromax 5 pack, zithromax 5 pack, zithromax 5 pack. .
