The most beautiful musical theatre and cinema in Berlin -Theater am Potsdamer Platz, also known as Berlinale Palast – is filled with light. Its red facade glows in the night. Thereai??i??s a red carpet, bright lights and hundreds of people shaking Berlinale flyers and magazines. Are they all waiting for Hollywood stars, hoping to take a selfie with celebrities or get an autograph? No, they are waiting for good, thought-provoking films exploring life, the end of childhood, beauty and first love, survival and despair, search for identity. All of these themes unite young people from across the globe.

This is the International Film Festival Berlinale how much does doxycycline cost. , where it is not only about the competition, which results in the awarding of Golden and Silver bears. Since 1978, the Berlinale has devoted a special section named ai???Generationai??? specifically to young people, children and adolescents. The focus is on films that are thematically and formally connected to the experiences of youth and adolescents. This yearai??i??s ai???Generationai??? consists of more than 60 short and long films produced in 35 countries all over the world.

Valderrama

Identity is a theme frequently explored in youth film. This is the case in the Iranian film “Valderrama” (directed by Abbas Amini). The protagonist, who admires the Colombian football star Carlos Valderrama to the extent that he adopts his name and wears curly blonde hair, has no family and no documents. He has fled from his hometown Abadan to the distant Tehran where he has to exist undocumented and underground. Without an ID card he cannot even find a home for a long time in the big city. Facing many challenges, this is the story of his harsh struggle for survival and the different people he meets on his way – both kind and evil. Finally he steals money and buys a new passport. In order to ensure that he resembles the person in his new passport, he shaves his luscious blond mane off and leaves Tehran. But does official identity, like having an ID, reflect oneai??i??s inner identity? This question remains unanswered in the film.

Starless Dreams

The theme of searching for identity is also seen in ai???Starless Dreamsai???, the documentary by Mehrdad Oskouei about the young women of an Iranian Correction and Rehabilitation Center. The director portrays young people who are imprisoned there for drug trafficking and other violent crimes. With great openness they talk about their lives and their dreams, but above all about their fear of having to return to their former lives. Like “Valderrama,ai??? this film offers insight into Iranian society for western audiences.

Triapichniy Soyuz

The motif of the desire of young people to lead an independent life beyond the expectations of adults runs through a series of films from the “Generation” program. Frequently, however, this leads to a dead end, such as in the Russian film “Triapichniy Soyuz” (Rag Union) by Mikhail Mestetskiy, which is about an anarchist group of three young people. They describe themselves as freaks, know-it-alls and ai???jerk-offsai???. Vania, an average teenager, would like to join this group and offers them his grandmotherai??i??s country house as a residence. What they want to do with their self-determined life, however, remains completely in the dark. The film is full of anarchic energy and reflects the idealism of young people in constructing their own world. ai???You only live onceai??? could be the motto of the film.
